The #1 rule when it comes to making money online is to avoid scams
Making money online is great and possible. Some people earn money the hard way by stripping their way through college, some people make money while they sleep (or so they claim)
Let’s talk about make money scams, so you don’t fall into the same trap as my friends did.
- Work at home scams, multi level marketing and out right frauds / scams
Nothing piss me off then someone getting scammed, especially when they make minimum wage and invest in some multi level marketing bullshit that is puke inducing.
My heart goes to the stay at home moms and college students who are just trying to make some extra money but fell into multi level marketing scheme, this is the reason why I’m writing this blog post.
Work at home and business scams to avoid
Multi level marketing is a barely legal scam. Some known multi level marketing companies are Amway, Herbal life and that company that sells bloody knives.
Funny because many years ago, I went to a Herbal Life seminar because my friend’s mother was part of it. I knew Herbal Life was a multi level marketing company and no way in hell was I every signing up or buying their shit. I came because I was curious what their sales funnel was like – how did they pressure hopeful people into buying their shit?
Whenever you attend a seminar, you want to observe the audience because it reveals who fell for the multi level marketing (MLM) trick. Most of the people in the audience were house wives, retirees and hopeful college students.
Basically, multi-level marketing scam goes like this: a person joins a company and buys the company’s products. For example, Herbal life sells skin cream and weight loss drinks.
The person then sells the products to her friends and family members for a marked up price. And then person tells her friends/family members to sign up for multi level marketing company, because she makes a commission every time her friends buy the products (also known as a “down stream”).
Looks like a pyramid scheme, doesn’t it? The company makes the bulk of their profit from selling false hope – the dream of “being your own boss and a business owner”. Call it business in a box.
I would rather get cancer than join a multi-level marketing company.
Other “make money online scams” to be aware of
If someone claims “make money online just typing” or “make money taking surveys” or “1 weird trick to make money online” then run for the fucking hills.
Most of the scams are video sales letter, where it’s a bunch of text with a voice over that usually starts off with:
“Are you sick of working 9 to 5? Would you like to be your own boss? Then join this revolutionary system on how to make money online. Simply install our software, push a button and make money. It’s really that simple! Here’s what our customers had to say …”
Or it’s a video of some guy in his garage …
If you go on clickbank.com, there are many “make money online” products. Why do people promote these products? Because they get a 50 percent commission for every sell – this is also known as affiliate marketing.
95 percent of “make money online system” or “make money at home” or “start your own business using the internet” products don’t work.
Here’s a list of scams or shitty ways to make money online that isn’t worth your time:
- Paid to surf the internet and view advertisement
- Paid to fill out surveys
- Paid to fill out capatcha
- Amazon Mechanical turk
Whenever there are desperate people, there will be people selling scams – just like companies that sell diet pill.
With that being said … let’s look at what works.
- Avoid multi level marketing companies like AmWay, Herbal Life. If it sounds too good to be true, Google up the company to see if it’s MLM
- If it’s another “make money online” product with a slick video sales letter, avoid it.
Legit ways to make money online the Internet
And finally, we’re here on the good stuff – the real deal – when it comes to making money online.
Sell stuff on Ebay / Amazon
‘Buy stuff for cheap, sell it for profit online”. There is this thing called “white label” where you buy a generic product (say, a iphone case) and you slap your brand on it.
There is this website called Alibaba.com which is a directory of suppliers in China where you can buy in bulk and sell it for profit online.
You know those dollar stores? They buy their stuff from China or South East Asia (Vietnam) and then sell it back for a mark up. You can do the same by buying off Alibaba.com and selling it on Craigslist or online.
Sell people stuff for a commission (aka, affiliate marketing)
There are companies out there that are happy to give you a commission whenever you refer them a customer. For example, on Uber Net I make $50 USD whenever a person signs up for web hosting.
Affiliate marketing is fun because you simply get a special link and when someone clicks on the link and buys the stuff, you get a commission. Many big companies have affiliate programs – for example, Amazon, Google (at one point), Name Cheap.
A blogging”gurus” like SmartPassiveIncome claims to make $100k USD a month (mostly from affiliate marketing). You can look at his earning report here: http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/my-income-reports/
Write ebooks and publish it on Amazon (also known as Amazon Kindle Publishing)
In 2013, I was making $2,000 USD a month from publishing books on Amazon. Most of the books was self improvement and stuff, filled with grammar mistake. In fact, most of the books I wrote was borderline troll – it started off as a joke.
But then people started buying the books and I kept publishing more. I thought that I could sit back and let the passive income roll in every month. I was wrong.
The sales declined. Three years later, I still make “passive” income from Amazon Kindle but it’s only $50 USD per month. Ha!
If you have a knack for writing and you live in a “third world country” like India or Vietnam, you can leverage your earning because most of the people buy books are in America, so you get paid in USD. Take that sweet advantage of the currency exchange rate.
Drive leads (also known as cost per lead)
Driving leads is a form of affiliate marketing. For example, everyone someone signs up for a dating website through my link, I get $1.
Companies love leads. For example, I can drive pay day loan leads and get paid up to $30 just for a name and phone number. Crazy, huh?
In late 2015, I put my heart and soul into mobile affiliate marketig; I was advertising ads on cell phones and driving dating leads and other type of leads.
But my heart and soul isn’t into the thing. Do I really want to be another sleazy marketer advertising more bullshit? The work felt like a grind and it’s just not a good feeling, so I stopped before I got too far down into the rabbit hole.
You might have heard of drop shipping. Consumers go to your website to buy the stuff. Instead of you shipping the product, the supplier ships it for you. You guessed it – you’re just a gloried middle man. But at least you get a commission and don’t need to carry any inventory.
Cliff note – legit ways to make money online that you can scale up
- Affiliate marketing (including drop shipping and cost per lead)
- Amazon Kindle Pubishing
- Selling stuff on Ebay and Amazon
You may have noticed …
I didn’t mention “web design” or “graphic design” because I don’t believe in trading time for money (trade anything BUT time for money). But with the methods mentioned above, you can scale the business up and make money while you sleep – that’s the make money online dream, isn’t it?
**A person can trade time for money by customizing a blog … or he can make money while he sleeps by making premade blog themes.
So there you have it
I hope this clears up the air. If I prevented a soul from falling into a shitty multi level marketing scheme, I am a happy person.
How to make money online, the Uber Human way
Two things to keep in mind:
- Location independent
- Detached from time
I want to make money while I sleep, whether I’m in Australia, Hong Kong or Thailand. That’s the internet marketing dream, isn’t it.
I’m going to focus mainly on affiliate marketing and open an e-commerce store at some point (probably drop shipping). What you’re seeing right now is my experiment with making money online (Uber Net, ebook, Master Mind group etc)
When I’m banking money with this website, the “secret” is in the open – someone can simply copy my website and my methods for making money. What’s the old quote again? “Good artist copy, great artist steal” or something like that.
If you want to start making money online, I recommend you start your own blog so you can learn the basic ins and outs like FTP, copy writing, affiliate marketing, autoresponder campaign etc the skill set will pay dividends down the road.
See you next week.
